STOP the Stigma: Addiction is a disease

Updated: 5 days ago

One way we can all help reduce stigma is by using person-centered, respectful language #WordsMatter. Choosing language that emphasizes the individual rather than the condition can encourage understanding, reduce bias, and support recovery.

At the NYC Regional Addiction Resource Center we are committed increasing awareness, promoting prevention, and reducing stigma while connecting New Yorkers to prevention, treatment, and recovery services.

If you or someone you know is struggling with alcohol, gambling, or substance use, confidential help is available 24/7. The New York State HOPEline offers free information, referrals, and support by calling 1-877-8-HOPENY (1-877-846-7369) or texting HOPENY (467369)
