October is Prevention Month: You Can Be the Difference!

Every October, we recognize Substance Use Prevention Month, an opportunity to raise awareness, empower communities, and strengthen families to prevent substance use before it begins.
Prevention is more than educating people about the risks of alcohol, gambling, and other drugs. It is about addressing the underlying conditions that contribute to substance use, reducing risk factors and strengthening protective factors that help individuals, families, and communities thrive.
This October, the NYC Regional Addiction Resource Center (NYC RARC) encourages everyone to practice prevention by starting meaningful conversations, listening without judgment, and creating supportive environments where young people feel safe asking questions and seeking guidance.
Prevention is a shared responsibility. Together, we can raise awareness, reduce stigma, build resilience and create healthier communities. Please visit the NYC RARC's website for a full list of substance use prevention resources, conversation starters, toolkits, and much more at: https://www.rarc-iuany.org
